Despite a great turnout from ABC’s lineup, a heavily-watched Cowboys/Patriots game kicked off a winning night for CBS.
7pm
- The late-running football game scored 26.4 million viewers (9.3 rating/27 share in 18-49) for CBS in the 7pm hour.
- America’s Funniest Home Videos (7.7 million, 2.1/6) didn’t really stand a chance.
- CW Now and Online Nation were mere blips on the screen.
8pm
- 60 Minutes (17.4 million, 4.2/11 in 18-49) benefitted from it’s strong sports lead-in.
- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (12.2 million, 4.3/11) slightly beat the news program in the demos.
- Between 8-11pm EST, NBC’s Sunday Night Football (9.2 million, 3.9/10) had a dramatic drop from last week.
- CW’s Life is Wild (1 million, 0.3/1) barely factored in the equation losing another 600,000 viewers.
9pm
- Desperate Housewives (18.5 million, 7.3/17 in 18-49) won the hour in both numbers and demos.
- Cold Case (3.5/8 in demo) came in second with 14.7 million viewers.
- A repeat of Family Guy (7.1 million, 3.5/8) rounded off the hour.
10pm
- Up 500,000 viewers, Brothers & Sisters (4.8/13 in 18-49) took a victory in in both key categories.
- Shark (12 million, 2.9/7) was also up this week.
Chevy Chase Guests on Brothers & Sisters
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Late Night, Prime Time, ABC, NBC, Saturday Night Live,
It’s the age old question: when did Chevy Chase become un-funny? I mean, SNL, Caddyshack, Vacation, and Fletch—Chevy ruled the comedy scene. Then it was as if his tank approached empty and he sputtered with every Caddyshack/Vacation/Fletch sequel. Not to worry, however. He has managed to show up in some recent films and even appeared on an episode of Law and Order last year (not to mention dropping in on SNL last weekend). So, his comedy chops may have fizzled, but he’s still around. Next up? A guest appearance on Brothers & Sisters, playing an ex-boyfriend of Nora’s (Sally Field). We’ll be seeing him on the series sometime in 2008 and he’ll stick around for a few episodes. I’m just hoping Chevy’s storyline is a little more interesting than last season’s guest, Peter Coyote, who played Nora’s potential love interest. And, since it’s a drama, he doesn’t even need to try and engage that dormant funny bone of his. Aww, I kid Chevy. I love Brothers & Sisters and I’m looking forward to seeing what role he’ll play.

ABC Takes Ratings Lead Sunday, Monday Nights
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Dancing With The Stars, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, Heroes, Prison Break, The Bachelor, Ratings,
This weekend’s ABC premieres made it clear audiences prefer their dramas soapy on Sunday nights.
- Although Desperate Housewives (19.3 million viewers, 7.4/17 share in 18-49 demo) and Brothers & Sisters (13.3 million, 5.1/13) were both down from last year’s premieres (23% and 15% respectively), both shows earned their best numbers since Nov. 26th.
- Cold Case (13.5 million, 3.4/8) and Shark (11.4 million, 2.7/7) did improve upon last week’s premieres, though Shark’s numbers were lower compared to last year’s time slot holder (Without a Trace).
- The Simpsons (8.4 million, 4.2/11), King of the Hill (7.2 million, 3.5/9) and Family Guy (7.9 million, 4.2/10) all underperformed their numbers from last Sunday.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Coverage

The 59th Annual Emmy Awards has not even started, yet I’m already sensing sensing a weird vibe about tonight’s telecast. Will the show be a celebration of those young and new (e.g. Heroes)? Will it be a tribute to those bowing out (James Gandolfini and crew)? Or will performer Kanye West somehow manage to cast a controversial shadow over the rest of the ceremony?
What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago, we were still handing out trophies to stars from Will & Grace and The West Wing (those shows feel so five-years ago now). Today, we welcome a new crop of nominees including Ugly Betty and 30 Rock for Best Comedy. Last year, we were entertained by an always-hilarious Conan O’Brien. This year, we are threatened by a song and dance number from this year’s host, Ryan Seacrest. Last August, 24 snagged the award for Best Drama. This September, it’s not even nominated (yet somehow Boston Legal is).
I think it would be safe to assume the voters would predictably (and respectfully) shower The Sopranos with honors, but I’ll still be crossing my fingers for an upset sometime tonight. We’ll need something to talk about tomorrow…
Here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the neglected West Coast!
